Dry eye or ocular lid disease effects 20% of the population.

Symptoms include: redness, watery eyes, photophobia(sensitivity to light), fluctuating vision, redness, itching and frequent eye infections.

There are different types of tear glands in the eye. If you have pain and redness in the morning most likely your meibomian(oil glands) are not functioning very well. If you have redness and tearing later in the day the aqueous ( saline) glands are not functioning well. There are different medical treatments for each one. Allergy can also cause itchy and red eyes. A qualified eye care practictioner specializing in dry eye would help with diagnosis and treatment.

Many optometrists and MD's do not treat dry eye or ocular lid disease. Our practice does diagnosis and treatment.
